Engineering Learning Communities
The KU School of Engineering offers two Learning Communities. It's like brain candy for the best students at KU. Students in the LCs are enrolled in two core courses and meet in a weekly seminar and take part in other social and enrichment programs. Many LC students live on the same floor in a KU residence hall, although engineering students with other living arrangements are welcome to be a part of the LCs.
The LCs began in 2003 and were established to give freshmen engineering students an immediate group of peers and access to events, faculty, employers and resources during the first year of school when the transition to college life is most critical. The goal is to build a fun and diverse network of friends, classmates, faculty and staff who share new perspectives and offer support during challenging times ahead.
Two LCs are available for engineering freshmen:
- The Leading Edge for aerospace engineering majors, led by aerospace engineering professor Rick Hale.
- Engineering By Design for all other engineering majors
