Women in Engineering Program

Although women have been graduating from the KU School of Engineering for generations, the need for more women engineers in industry and government is still great.

More than 30 years ago the KU School of Engineering established a student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. The society is a nonprofit educational and service organization that works to encourage more women to pursue rewarding careers in engineering. The organization empowers women to succeed and advance in that aspiration and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as women engineers and leaders.

The KU SWE chapter is very active and contributes to community efforts, has established a mentoring program, and participates in outreach and fund-raising activities throughout the year.

Chapter members actively participate in two KU School of Engineering outreach programs for high school girls: Project Discovery and the SWE Weekend of Engineering.
