Engineering Student Council sponsors a variety of activities each year. A major effort of the council is the annual Engineering Expo. Expo is an opportunity for student groups to plan and create engineering projects for public display. Awards are given for the best displays. Along with Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor society, the council organizes the annual Engineering Olympics in which all engineering students are invited to compete.
Society of women engineers is an organization dedicated to the promotion and support of women students in engineering. Regular meetings give women an opportunity to talk with each other, with faculty, and with industry representatives to discuss matters of concern to women engineers. There are a variety of activities throughout the year, including pizza parties, resume workshops and dinners with representatives from industry. Look for posters around Learned Hall and Eaton Hall announcing meetings and activities. All women are encouraged to participate.
Tau Beta Pi is the International Honor Society for Engineering Professionals.
The University of Kansas Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers is one of 300+ chapters with a world wide membership of 15,000.It has been in existence for 36 years. Through a variety of programs and activities, NSBE offers its members the tools they need to succeed in every engineering discipline.
To increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers was founded in Los Angeles, California by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form an organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. Student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation. SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.
The University of Kansas Chapter was organized 1988, and has continued to be committed to meet the educational goals of the School of Engineering, and the national organization.
Theta Tau is a professional fraternity for both men and women enrolled in engineering. Its mission is to build strong bonds between members and to use those bonds to further education and professionalism. Fun is considered an essential element of Theta Tau’s professional development efforts.
The organization is open to undergraduates and graduate students not already pledged to a professional fraternity, such as Triangle. Theta Tau has a chapter house off campus, near 23rd and Kasold.
A number of national engineering societies have student chapters. These groups organize several events each year including guest speakers, parties, picnics, etc. Visit engineering department websites to find out what student organizations are available.
