This graduate level class will
provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts concerning
structure and properties of materials used to replace soft and hard biological
tissues including metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, natural, resorbable,
and other less common materials. After the device is implanted both the
tissue and material responses to the environment are of interest and will
be investigated. A number or different tissue replacements will be considered
including skin, maxillifacial implants, total joints, and teeth. |
